A quick guide to Fishing and buying your first Rod

Fishing tackle is any equipment or object that is used to catch fish by fisherman across the world. Any equipment that is used may be called a tackle. Objects like hooks, baits, reel, nets, lines etc constitute fishing tackle. Any object that is attached to the dipping end of the tackle is known as terminal tackle. It refers to the actually physical equipment used to catch fish during the fishing process.Common terminal tackle includes, rigs, lures, jiggs and perks

Some of the fishing tackles used are defined below

  • Hooks – A hook catches a fish by running through a fish's mouth. The hook gives a good grip for the fish. A barb is on the hook to prevent the fish getting off the hook.

  • Lines – It is a cord used to attach the terminal tackle to the reel. It is usually made of synthetic products such as nylon etc.

  • Rods – A fishing rod consists of a blank made from composite material or cane, with eyes for the line to run through, a handle made of cork or plastic and seat for the reel to attach to. See below

  • Baits – Bait is and object which can attract a fish towards itself and help in fishing. It can be live bait like earthworm, small fish, insects or artificial bait such as plastic in the form of small prey.

  • Nets – These are network of interwoven thin threads which spoon up the fish which can then be brought to surface. Nets can be of various sizes and can extend from small handy hoops to large nets used for commercial purposes.

It is important to know the right kind of tackle that has to be used for a particular fish. All fishes cannot be caught by the same tackle as fishes differ in size and attributes. Also, the right kind of terminal tackle is essential for catching your choice of fish. At the same time, it is also necessary to take care of the tackle you use so as not to infect the fishes you catch.

Fishing Rods

For purposes of boat fishing, boat fishing rods are used. These rods are considerably different from a normal fishing rod; a boat rod is noticeably thicker and shorter. This is so to allow bigger and heavier fishes to be brought up from the deeper waters.

Since its notable difference from a normal fishing rod, it becomes necessary to understand the different factors involved in buying a boat fishing rod. A boat fishing rod is a long term investment when it comes to fishing. This means that whenever there's a need for a change of gear, it would not be smart to keep running back and forth when you can have all of it on your boat. This is done so that one is able to make the most out of his time spent on the water with the most of his needed gear.

A boat fishing rod comes in many different assortments of models and styles, from different makers with different selling points and features. But to own a high quality piece of rod, one needs to be sure of his choice of equipment. One of the most important facets of a boat rod is its weight. One needs to have a light weighted rod so that their arms and shoulders don't tire out with the strain of holding it for long. A not so flimsy, powerful and durable rod is your best option regarding the rod's weight.

Another important factor is that this rod should accommodate all the gear that you need because a weak gear wouldn't properly haul up your catch. Length of the rod is another prime factor for holding up all the required gear. Apart from size, versatility and strength of the rod are what makes up a good boat fishing rod and gear.

What is this name for this cord reel that came with my ID badge?

So at work when I got my ID Badge it came attached to this reel that automatically retracts a nylon cord. By design it keeps my badge attached to my pant waist but allows me to pull the ID up to a security sensor so I can access certain areas and then retract the cord returning the card to my waist. What are these little devices called?

Badge Reels.

A web search pulls up lots of companies that will make custom designs for you or sell standards. As far as brick and mortar stores, Office Depot has them.
