want to make my own ring for a special someone !!!!?
i want to make a ring for a special someone, but it is very detailed, the band its self has like vines all along it. but the ring its self has to hold a small object the size of a thumb tack. i have made the desgin out of wax, which is nice because i was able to get really creative with it and detailed. but
Now my question is should i use like delft clay, or can i use cuttlefish bones to make a mold for something detailed like what i am asking??
in other words is cuttle fish bones capable of making what i am asking or should i use a clay mold??
also what metal, alloys would i need to mix to get a really shiny silver ?? and if you can, can i get the measurements ?
are there any other alternitives to deflt clay ?? any of kind of clay that i can use to make molds??
also how would you go about attaching a thumb tack size object to a ring??
any advice, cheap clay, or tips, would be much appreciated
I don't know how you plan on doing this, what with hot metal and all, but below is an example of the Lost wax method used in jewelry making, the same technique is used in making Dental prosthetics
anyway, any supplies you need can be purchased from a ceramics store or a Dental supply place
To attach the jewel or object, you can either use an epoxy, or form prongs in the wax patern, which may be tricky, or make a hole in the center of the ring and a post on the thumb tack object and that can be inserted into the finished metal and tapped flat like a rivet.
