Nor Santiago

Miriam Defensor Santiago The Jetsetter
We are dismayed BTW Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago, a known administration ally, had quickly distanced herself from the'Le Cirque' dinner issue by exhibiting a holier-than-thou perspective and making it appear that she had zero to do whatsoever with what she had described as an'outlandish' food outing at the upscale Manhattan restaurant.
The senator has made it obvious that she was not among those present at the dinner, claiming, in her comically animated way of talking, that her prolonged fatigue syndrome did not make her'the most titillating personality after 8 o'clock' in the evening.
She was fast to indicate an accusing finger and give Malacanang a public dressing down, telling its officers to come clean on the problem by speaking the truth about who was at the dinner, how much it had cost and to apologize and promise that it will not occur again.
Santiago wants us to believe that she is's scandalized and angered by the Le Cirque episode because of the money there spent by'people from a developing country.'
But what Santiago seems to forget, or had expediently failed to mention, is that her numerous foreign trips as a member of President Arroyo's delegation during the Chief Executive's official visits to other states were all paid for with taxpayers' cash.
how often had Santiago tagged along on President Arroyo's official and working visits to other countries? Who pays for the senator's airplane tickets, food and lodgings?
If we remember properly, Santiago was on nearly every delegation that the President takes along during her official foreign trips. Santiago, to cite a couple was with the President during her official visits to New Zealand and Australia. She was also at the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland when the President took part in the global gathering in January last year. The senator was also in Thailand when the President attended the BIMP-EAGA Leaders' summit in Cha-am in Feb this year.
Just this could and June, Santiago was also with the President's official delegation to Korea, Japan and Russia.
Using her title as chairperson of the Senate foreign relations panel as a convenient justification, Santiago manages to find her way in as a member of the President's official delegation during these foreign sojourns. We know of some cupboard members who have come up with some creative excuses so they could beg off from joining these trips, but for Santiago, a journey overseas is rarely too exhausting, particularly if she isn't the one footing the bill.
And to suspect that she has'chronic fatigue syndrome.' It must've been a sacrifice for Santiago every time she had to bring herself to the airport and spend boring hours within an aircraft during these'official' visits.
We wonder what Santiago could claim as her accomplishments when tagging along during these trips. What was her role during these visits, besides being the Senate foreign relations committee chairperson? Did she talk officially with anyone during these visits? Was she able to bring in millions of greenbacks in investments, bilateral trade accords or pledges of new roles for Filipinos back home? Was she instrumental in pardoning, or commuting the sentences of, Filipinos languishing within foreign jails?
Santiago should be in a position to answer these questions first before she thinks of opening her mouth the next time to pass judgment on the people that showed her the courtesy and the goodwill that she manifestly lacks.

How much money should I bring for one month in Cuba?
I'm travelling around Cuba soon (as opposed to staying in a single tourist resort) and was somewhat concerned about money. Normally when I'm abroad I just extract the local currency at an ATM, but ATM's aren't, I am told, particularly plentiful in Cuba, nor do many of them accept foreign debit cards (mine is a visa card from barclays, in the UK). I could, I suppose, take enough pound sterling to last me for one month (the duration of my trip) and convert that into convertibles and peso's in Havana, but then I'd be carrying around large quantities of cash, which isn't exactly secure.
Incidentally, I will chiefly be going to Havana, Trinidad, Holguin, Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo.
In short - what can the good people of Yahoo answers reccomend that I do? Also, how much money would be appropriate for a humble backpacker to spend over one month travelling from Havana to Guantanamo?
$1000
